Overview

MyLang Reader supports importing content from multiple sources to create your personalized reading library. This guide covers all import methods and best practices.

Import Methods

1. Web Articles and URLs

Import any web article by URL for instant reading:

Copy the URL

Copy the full URL of any article, blog post, or web page

Open Import Dialog

Click the + Import button in MyLang Reader

Select URL Import

Choose “Import from URL” option

Paste and Import

Paste the URL and click “Import”
Supported Sites: Most news sites, blogs, Wikipedia, Medium, Substack, and more.
Some sites with paywalls or heavy JavaScript may not import correctly. We’re continuously improving compatibility.

2. File Upload

Upload documents directly from your device:

Supported File Types

  • PDF Files
  • ePub Books
  • Word Documents
  • Text Files
  • Best for: Articles, research papers, books
  • Text extraction: Automatic OCR for scanned PDFs
  • Languages: All supported languages
  • Max size: 50MB

Click + Import“Upload File”

Browse and select your file from device storage

Set Language

Choose the source language (auto-detected when possible)

Process File

Wait for text extraction and processing (30 seconds - 3 minutes)

3. YouTube Videos

Transform YouTube videos into readable transcripts:
YouTube import requires videos to have subtitles (auto-generated or manual). Premium users get enhanced subtitle processing.

Copy YouTube URL

Copy the full YouTube video URL

Import Video

Click + Import“Import from URL” and paste the YouTube URL

Select Subtitle Language

Choose the subtitle language you want to learn from

Process Subtitles

Wait for subtitle extraction and processing

Choose Appropriate Level

Start with content where you understand 70-80% of words for optimal learning

Variety is Key

Mix different content types: news, stories, academic texts for diverse vocabulary

Regular Updates

Import fresh content regularly to maintain engagement and learn current language

Quality Over Quantity

Better to deeply study fewer articles than skim many

Technical Tips

  • Use text-based PDFs rather than scanned images when possible
  • Ensure good image quality for scanned documents
  • Single-column layouts work better than multi-column
  • Remove excessive headers/footers if possible
  • Use direct article URLs rather than homepage links
  • Avoid URLs with redirects or tracking parameters
  • Reader mode URLs often work better (e.g., Firefox Reader View)
  • Some sites work better with mobile URLs
  • Choose videos with clear, well-paced speech
  • Educational content often has better subtitles
  • Avoid videos with background music or noise
  • Shorter videos (5-20 minutes) are ideal for language learning
